Tenerife South Airport Transfers & Taxis

At Tenerife South Airport, the taxi rank is at the eastern end of the terminal building, close to the arrivals hall exit. Each municipality in the Canary Islands administrates a separate taxi fleet. In Tenerife, the taxis are white with the crest and name of their municipality on the doors.

The drivers are not allowed to pick up passengers outside of their region, but they can drop off at any location on the island. It can seem strange that an empty taxi doesn't stop when hailed, but that would generally be because they are outside of their area and cannot pick up a fare for the return journey.

Taxis are usually spotlessly clean, as the drivers take pride in their vehicles. They will often be seen polishing and cleaning while waiting at the ranks. Their driving can appear to be pretty casual but, as their livelihood depends on their vehicle, they rarely take risks.

The fares are set by the government and all the official taxis must have a meter fitted. You can ask for an estimate of the fare before getting in, but the meter reading will be the final price.

The exception is for tours to locations around the island for which there will be a fixed price. These tours can be a good way to see the sights if you don't want to drive or be herded on a coach tour.

The taxi fleets do have larger vehicles for up to seven people but you may have to book in advance to ensure availability. There are also vehicles equipped for people with reduced mobility (PRM).

Tariffs

There are two set tariffs. The tariff applicable to your journey will depend on the time and day of travel.

• Tariff 1 – Applicable from Monday to Saturday 06:00 – 22:00
  • Minimum fare: €3.15
  • Price per kilometre: €0.55
  • Waiting time per 15 minutes: €3.76
  • Airport supplement: €1.70 (journeys originating or ending at the airport)
• Tariff 2 - Applicable from Monday to Saturday 22:00 – 06:00, Sundays and holidays
  • Minimum fare: €3.45
  • Price per kilometre: €0.63
  • Waiting time per 15 minutes: €3.76
  • Airport supplement: €1.70

Free Services

• Adapted vehicles for PRM with wheelchair or mobility scooter
• Child seats (must be requested in advance)
• Small pets can be carried in a suitable cage

Shared & Private Transfers

A reliable and cost-effective way of travelling between the airport and your accommodation is a pre-booked transfer.

A private transfer offers you a meet and greet service where you'll be met in arrivals by your driver, an appropriate vehicle for the size of your party and door to door transport direct to your address. You can even choose a luxury car for an exclusive experience.

With a shared transfer, as the name implies, you will be on a coach or minibus with other passengers. You will usually be given a meeting point in the arrivals hall from which you'll be taken or directed to the vehicle.

The shared option is cheaper but can take much longer. You might have to wait for passengers and, unless you are first off, there will be stops on the route. Also, they often don't stop at private addresses so you would have to pick a nearby hotel or complex for drop off/pick up.

The transfer drivers and vehicles must be licensed and they provide a safe alternative to public transport.
